Treasure hunt

After Sophie, Sam and Wilson spent a few minutes mapping out the backyard, Sam spent the better part of last night and this morning preparing a treasure hunt for Sophie and Wilson. He wrote and hid clues this morning. He was somewhat disappointed when they zipped through his entire puzzle in a few short minutes.

Next time, we’ll be sure to write more difficult clues!

While you were out

Dear Mark and Chloe,

Overall, today went pretty well. None of the children had major meltdowns, and I don’t think we lost any of them. Not for an extended period of time, anyway.

Our biggest difficulty today was when we tried to take the kids to the SuperHappyFun-atorium. Someone looked up directions to the wrong -atorium. After a 45-minute drive, we pulled triumphantly into the parking lot of a fitness center. Not a SuperHappyFun-atorium. Then, with the three older children in various states of sadness and with Piper actually whimpering with weariness, we went back home. We’ll try for SuperHappyFun again tomorrow.

Fortunately, the Navigation Complication was the most frustrating part of the day. Here’s photographic evidence that the rest of it wasn’t half bad … Continue reading

Fall Fun

On a rainy afternoon, in mid-October, we made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. This year we went to both the Windy Hill Apple Orchard and Black’s Farm. After an afternoon of picnic lunches, corn mazes and hay rides, we made our way across the highway to the Windy Hill Orchard for apple cider, apple donuts and fresh apples for baking.

Sam, Sophie and Wils at the apple orchard…

Claire laughs it up while watching the hay ride.

Our Dad is Great!

Mark is getting ready to leave for his annual convention this week. Some of you may already be panicking on my behalf. Not to worry, he surprised me today. He took the afternoon off and has taken the three older children to the zoo for the day. What a great guy!! I’m off to feed the baby and fold laundry in peace…..

Toasty Toes

Well, Mark’s been away all week and today we had a mild ice storm here in upper South Carolina. At least is was mild here in our neck of the woods. But what better excuse to pop a few logs on the fire and read to the children. So, after we finished school today and returned from a cancelled dance class, I started a fire in the den for the kids. We read a few chapters from our book, Return of the Black Stallion and made plans to toast marshmallows after dinner.

The marshmallow toasting should prove to be fun. Mark ate all the large marshmallows, so now I’m left with a bunch of mini-marshmallows. Hmmmm? Hope you’re all warm and toasty this evening.
